Canadian Karting League Junior champion earns car ride

TORONTO, ONTARIO – Two-time Canadian Karting League (CKL) Junior Champion Matt Garwood has been selected to compete in a Franczak sponsored entry for Vallis Motor Sport in the Canadian FV1200 Championship in 2012. Garwood was one of 11 Canadian Karting League drivers who competed in the Franczak Evaluation Day at Mosport a few weeks ago.

Garwood, from Elmvale, Ontario learned of his selection to drive when the Franczak FV1200 car was unveiled at the recent Canadian Karting League banquet, and his name was on the car.

“Being selected by Chris Bye from 10 other finalists to drive the Franczak/Vallis Motor Sport FV1200 car for 2012 is a tremendous honour and definitely an exciting opportunity for me,” Garwood said. “Chris is a true racer and Bill Vallis is legend in Formula V competition. I think working with Chris and Bill will be a recipe for winning on and off the track. I’m already looking forward to going racing next season.”

Franczak’s Chris Bye knew that his decision on who would get the fully funded 2012 drive wasn’t going to be an easy one.  “We knew going into the run-off that picking one out of 11 drivers was going to be a real challenge. We were looking for someone who would represent Franczak well – both in and out of the race car,” Bye said.

“Matt’s performance in the interview stood out. He was very well spoken and had obviously put a lot of time and thought into his message to us. And more importantly, Matt’s performance inside the race car was second to none. He was not only the quickest of the 11 drivers, he was also the most consistent. I am looking forward to the 2012 Formula Vee Championship and working with Matt leading up to and throughout the year. I also want to thanks Bill Vallis from Vallis Motorsport and Stephen and Michael Adams,” Bye added.

“We are very proud that one of our drivers is starting to make his way up the racing ladder,” CKL owner Russ Bond said. “Franczak’s support of the CKL is what makes all this happen. Chris Bye is very hands-on with the CKL program, and we are honoured to have Franczak’s support. I know Matt Garwood will represent Franczak and the CKL very well as he makes his debut season in race cars.”
